About

Alan Geraghty is a Product Designer from Ireland

I’m a multi-disciplinary design leader with more than a decade of experience building digital products and leading teams. Today, I am a Senior Product Designer at BrightWork, where we are building the future platform for project management and collaboration. Working at the intersection of digital product design and brand identity, I’ve had the privilege of influencing products used and loved by millions of people all over the world. I have led design teams and processes, designed products and user interfaces, and consulted for companies such as Condé Nast, Amazon, Element Wave, The New York Times, Project Central, Educate Magis, Vice, Wired Magazine and Pando Daily. I endeavor to make technology more intuitive and accessible to use for all people. My design career has helped shape the way independent startups and multinational corporations think about design and digital experiences. My work has earned international recognition from renowned publications, including Dribbble, Creative Review and Fast Company.

One of my primary strengths is in having an unwavering growth focused mindset, and I thrive in innovation driven environments. I believe in creating a balance whereby ideas can incubate and flourish by encouraging creative thinking and authenticity. As part of this, I value collaboration, transparency and balancing unique strategies and methods with proactive responses and measurable outcomes. Supporting the teams I work with by helping them connect ideas, patterns and trends, and providing guidance for how things might be improved is a big component in this process. These strengths are both my own and what I strive to incorporate into the teams that I work with to ensure that there is a shared understanding of my process. Whilst staying aligned with overall company values by routinely using them as methods of evaluation for problem sets, I believe in a commitment to transparency in my ideation approaches in order to drive positive change throughout organizations. When conducting meticulous research into how everything fits into the bigger picture, I seek to quickly discover minimum viable solutions in order to make them a reality.

Product design has been the core of my career for many years, and I’ve helped numerous companies to design their products from the ground up. I’ve worked on a wide range of projects for brands in almost every vertical, including healthcare, education, travel, e-commerce, news and entertainment. Product design as a discipline forces you to evaluate your past assumptions in every single project, and I love what this entails, from leveraging in-depth user insights to crafting the final expression of a product. In relation to product visions and future concepts, over the past few years I have led several vision projects for clients contributing to them with story narratives, envisioning the future state of existing products, and defining new solutions or services. There is something extraordinary about how an idea once envisioned in a room with a small group of people, ends up becoming a real product where developers, architects and researchers help bring their own vision to create something new. Alongside doing design and creative direction on a freelance basis, I’ve also presented at technology conferences, given workshops and consulted for startups.
